Shoebury Conservatives have welcomed the news that East Beach and Shoebury Common have gained Blue Flag status after making the grade for water quality, cleanliness, clean water, good facilities and good access.
Shoeburyness Ward Councillor Roger Hadley commented:
"Whether it is a question of variety, accessability or value for money enjoying beaches in Shoeburyness is a great way for families to rechage their batteries".
The blue flag award has a strict criteria for water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety.
It was a double celebration for East beach and Shoebury Common as both beaches also received the Quality Coast Award.
West Shoebury Councillor Liz Day added:
"With all the doom and gloom in the travel industry, visiting beaches in Shoeburyness is the perfect way to save money and have a good time".
