The RNLI Atlantic lifeboat launched from the pier at Southend around 7.15pm on Saturday, to help a lone sailor on a 19ft yacht a mile off the shore at Shoebury.
There were problems with the boat’s engines so lifeboat members towed it back to a safe mooring near Benfleet Yacht Club in Canvey Road, Canvey.
