Cllr Tony Cox, candidate for West Shoebury ward has spoken of his disapointment that the latest police figures show an increase of 8.3% during September, October and November 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
The latest set of figures also reveal that anti-social behaviour has risen by 29%, vehicle crime is up 21% and burglary has increased by a massive 61.5%.
On the positive side violence is down 19.4% and robery remains unchanged.
Cllr Tony Cox commented:
"On a positive note crime overall in West Shoebury is still below the national average and West Shoebury is still a fairly safe area.
"I can not hide my diappointment at the latest set of figures, and will be working hard in conjunction with the police to help reduce crime for 2010.
