19/05/09 - 2.9 Million For New Shoebury Youth Centre

Shoebury Conservative councillor's have been successful in securing 2.9 million pounds in funding for a new youth facility next to the Shoebury swimming pool.

The new centre will include a new restaurant with a professional kitchen, a garden and terrace area, a dance studio, gym, a large sports hall with a climbing wall and shower facilities.

Additionally, there will be an It suite, a soundproofed music area offering rehersal and recording facilities, a snooker room, a bike and motor vehicle workshop, a youth volunteering centre and office accommodation.

Upon hearing the news Cllr Tony cox, councillor for West Shoebury said:

"I'm delighted that Shoebury has secured this funding for what will be a fantastic facility.

"The existing Youth Centre is well used but isn't large enough for the number of young people who want to use it.

"The current building is over 50 years old and is becoming worn out.''
